The final was held on Sunday 26th January
2003 in Farnborough Village Hall and in Altrincham - at the latter Burton
Camcorder Club were over the moon at their success. Two of the judges attended
the Southern screening and Clive Desmond gave comments on all the films at
the end of the show. Mike Coad reports: "Several people came up at the
end to say how enlightening it was to listen to how the results were arrived
at and that it gave them 'Food for Thought'."
The theme for next year's North v South is THE JUDGES Bob Hayward - started making films at the age of 12 on a Standard 8 camera and showing them to friends in the garden shed. Now at 47, he has enjoyed over 30 years as a professional film maker, mostly as film editor and has worked on dramas such as Bergerac and Miss Marple. His main work however has been on Panorama of which he has over 300 to his credit. He has a number of awards for his work including 2 Emmy's and 7 RTS. His work takes him all over the globe covering world events and as this show takes place, he is in the Middle East covering the current troubles in Iraq. Clive Desmond - has worked as a Director/Producer of documentaries for TV in the Far East as well as teaching related skills. He has also worked on over 300 feature films in the UK, France, Italy and Spain and has 300-400 television programmes to his credit. As well as presenting the Disney Wonderland series, he has acted in medical dramas like Emergency Ward 10. Clive is a writer of short stories and TV scripts as well as a little poetry. He is also a Musical Composer/Performer and Recordist and his works include a Suite for Violin and Orchestra, Flute and Oboe Concertos and theme music for dramas. Des Coulson, MA (Oxon), LTCL, FRSA - is currently Vice Chairman of Bromley Arts Council, Committee member of the Bromley Cultural Strategy Partnership and Committee member of The All Saints Festival in the Borough of Bromley. His early career includes Headmaster of St Olaves Grammar School, Bromley, teaching posts in Lancashire, Shropshire, Surrey and Kent and Rugby Correspondent for the Sunday Times. Des has also organised a film society as well as producing plays and acting in various musicals and reviews. He is also responsible for establishing the St Olaves Subscription Concerts with over 600 members and presented over 100 concerts himself.
