In Search of Double Life
News from Cambridge Movies Workshop

Cambridge Movies Workshop’s latest offering, temporarily named La Double Vie, will be in production near the beginning of 2004.

Hold on: CMW actually said they were making it in the summer of 2003. What’s going on?

Here is what the director Atta Chui says…

“The outline of La Double Vie was written in May 2001. A few CMW people and friends have read it and liked it. In May 2003, we started recruiting people and I started writing the script.

We found the cast, the crew, music guy… while I spent 4 months writing the script during my daily commute between Cambridge and London.

La Double Vie is a long story. After 4 months of writing, I was on page 45. At that point, I realized something.

The script I was writing was completely different from what the outline says.

The focus has changed. The subtext has changed. It is a different story.

La Double Vie is about life going in a circle, but I am still on the first life on Page 37. On my outline, the first life is only the Act I of a 3-Act structure. Now it looks like it has become half of the movie.

I can’t say the unexpected change is better or worse, but it is different. I am not sure the movie will work anymore.

So the shooting is called off. I have to take the script apart and rewrite it all over again.”

More information about La Double Vie can be found on CMW’s website. Contact Atta Chui if you would like to get involved.
