The 30th. Kent Film Festival held in Canterbury on Sept. 27th, was a great success despite being unable to find a sponsor this year.

The committee wish to thank David Longley and members of Surrey Border Film & Video Makers for judging the competition. Entries from clubs and individual movie makers in Kent and South London are eligible to enter the Festival.

Winner of the best movie in the Festival was Barbara Darby of Orpington Video & Film Makers, with ‘Squatters in my garage’.

Other winners from the same club included the best travelogue by Mike and Pam Graham, Mike Coad won the trophy for best editing with ‘City Beat’, and ‘Goodbye to Yesterday’ by Mike Turner and Derek Allen won the award for best acting with four members from the Italia Conti Associate School, Chislehurst.

Annabelle Lancaster was given the trophy for ‘best use of sound’, whilst the best documentary award went to Jim Moreton-Robertson.

‘The Gremlins’ who are members of both the Orpington Club and Shooters Hill Cine & Video Society, were successful in the ‘One-Minute’ category and Basil Doody who also belongs to both clubs was awarded a Commended Certificate. Another commended Certificate went to Harold Trill.

Ron Jarrett took the ‘Maiden’ trophy, not having won a previous award in this competition.

Spring Park Video Club (West Wickham) won the cup the best Club entry; Tim Jones of Canterbury came top of the Photography group and last, but not least, the Junior Cup was won by his son Jake Jones who is just eight years old.

The organisers, who give their services free, would be grateful for a sponsor or any other help for the 2004 Festival.
