Orpington Video & Film Makers (Kent)

Clubs Online   |  Contact

Orpington Video and Film Makers are now online - Watch their movies directly from your browser!

This very active club was formed in 1958 as the Orpington Cine Society and has a current membership of 45.  They meet on alternate Tuesdays in the Barnard Room of St. Augustine's Church, Southborough Lane on the Orpington/Bromley border in Kent. They attract loyal support ... recently Anabelle Lancaster stood down from the committee after 23 years,14 of them as secretary.

At a Clubs Online of their own.As you can see from this picture they are a friendly lot.  They are interested in movie making in general: some concentrating on film and others on video.  They have complete beginners as well as some very experienced film makers who are always willing to discuss problems or give advice.  However, non-filmmakers are also very welcome as they often contribute by lending a hand where needed, putting forward ideas or just being part of the audience.

The club's aim is to encourage the making of competent films and videos.  They run several friendly competitions that help to give members ideas and incentive.  At judging time they encourage general discussion with constructive comments and helpful hints - so that everyone learns a little more about movie making.

They have several practical evenings through the year but encourage everyone - especially newcomers and beginners - to seek help from fellow members at any time.

Thanks to lottery funding they have a modern video projection outfit allowing movies to be shown on a large screen. This equipment can also be hired for non-club events.  They produce a monthly newsletter to keep members in touch with news and ideas.

On the social side they have a barbecue and ramble in the summer, a friendly get-together and dinner in the winter.  There are several occasions during the year when they meet with other clubs or go along top movie festivals.  They also give public shows from time to time.

The current annual subscription is £20 or £36 for a couple, which includes refreshments at meetings.  Prospective members are welcome to attend a couple of times before deciding whether or not to join.
