Our meeting place is St Leonards and St Ives Village Hall in Braeside Road, St Leonards near Ringwood. The Hall has very easy parking, and is only a short distance from the A31 dual carriageway, midway between Ringwood and Ferndown. It has been used many times by the Group for the Annual Evening of A/V Entertainment. Our first full day venture at this venue in November showed how attractive the access was to members and visitors from far and near. By promoting an active interest in the production of sequences and with the improved accessibility we expect to increase the club membership from our present level of thirty. The Club-night events will take place in either of two meeting rooms which will comfortably seat over 60 people and also afford useful space for our projection and sound equipment.

Stour and Avon AV Day 20th November 2005
The obligatory AV Day sun (and the frost) were soon forgotten as Eddie Spence FRPS showed his version of a tropical world, with the birds, butterflies and bugs that inhabited the torrid paradise of……… Leeds? Perhaps Global Warming has reached parts of England that we southerners are not aware of. Apparently not: all the pictures were taken in the hothouse of a city park. Then a cooler visit to Scotland preceded an even cooler sequence called Winter Harp. Eddie explained carefully, and in detail, his approach to making AVs, with both storyline and “pictures to music” having their individual significance. Aspects of Pictures to Exe. that enhanced the picture flow were also demonstrated. The very moving Passing of Chief Dan George was followed by a talk on copyright. White Water Rafting with music by Chris Rea was far more energetic with, apparently, Eddie climbing the trees overhanging the river to get closeups. On The Beach, north of Scarborough, again with Chris Rea, was more relaxing. In the next three sequences Eddie showed his mastery of both the subject, the script and the voice over. Objects of Desire is an essay on the age-old allure that is characterisd by Columbine. Mine is the Ecstasy shows Salvador Dali revering both the works of Antoni Gaudi and himself. The Sadness Will Last Forever brought us the suicidal artistic life of Vincent Van Gogh. Then more information on how to make great AVs. In the afternoon, three clubs each gave 30-minute presentations of their sequences. Maureen Denis represented Braunton Camera Club from Devon, using the acronym RIPPLES, with entertaining sequences ranging from The Deck of Cards to Balloon Fiesta. Viewfinders of Romsey were introduced by Arthur Budden who took us travelling from Austria to Granada via Canada and Italy. The Stour and Avon presentation, hosted by Dudley Button and Merle Graham, started with an introduction using Globfx showing those two rivers. The programme also featured Norway, The Thames Path and Water Gardens. Eddie completed the day by taking us to Bruges and Africa, again with a great deal of helpful advice on how our next sequence could be even better. There was plenty of time for AV chat between old friends and new aquaintances. Overall it was a stimulating day, thanks to all the participants, especially Eddie. - Alan Graham
