This unit is based in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Meetings are held fortnightly on alternate Wednesday Evenings at 7.30pm. in the Upper St. Lawrence's Church Hall, The Shambles, Stroud. The venue is The Subscription Rooms situated in the Town Centre. The Ballroom of the venue is converted into a cinema for the shows. It is the unit of which a sub committee is responsible for mounting The Cotswold International Film & Video Festival held in the town. The next festival will be held on 2nd-3rd. September, 2005. Closing date 14th May, 2005. Click here to find out more about the festival. Films we made: In collaboration with the Town Council, Stroud Video Makers has recently produced The Duel. This is often referred to as "the last duel (fought) in England". It took place in 1807 and involved young army officers. It is part of the town's history. It started from a challenge as a duel fought with pistols but turned into a murder with grim results... The film has been premiered and was extremely well received. Copies in any format can be provided for £6. to cover the cost of professional copying and postage only. It's also coupled with The Undiscovered Cotswolds produced by the club secretary Lee Prescott. The latest production completed this year (2004) is Visons Of The Future [Time Slip]. This stars two 15 years old actors / students. Alex Farrow member of the UK Youth Parliament and Laurence Mills. It's is a comedy drama and is considered by all who have seen it, i.e. the general public, to be very good and quite hilarious. Activities: The unit has members ranging from those with wide experience to complete novices. This experience includes camera and sound recording techniques, editing, script writing, acting, lighting, indeed all the aspects of movie making. Through the year the unit provides:-
The Festival Officer who is chiefly responsible for the organisation of The Cotswold International Film and Video Festival, Lee Prescott, himself holder of nineteen international awards, is also Secretary of Stroud Video Makers. Lee maintains weekly several major contacts with movie makers in other countries. Everyone of any age is welcome to join Stroud Video Makers, with or without movie making equipment, who have an interest in any aspects of movie making and will be made welcome.
