Pendle Movie Makers

This group meets on the first Monday of every month (except when that is a Bank Holiday when we change to the second Monday) at The Blind Centre, Derby Street, Colne, BB8 9AA, at 7.30 pm. Our set-up is less formal than some clubs with the emphasis on joining in rather than being led. In this way we hope to respond to members' needs as they change, sharing information and experience.

Strong Roots in the Community

The group, whose motto is 'Filming in the Community for the Community', recently celebrated fifty years since it was founded as Pendle Film Society.

Club, and even individual, productions tend to be outwardly directed for the benefit of churches, schools, charities and the Borough of Pendle itself. This has been a feature of the club since its foundation in the 1960's, the first major production being a record of the year in the public life of Nelson in 1962. Club equipment has recently been updated and now includes a BluRay player and HD projector as well as HD TV. We have a good sound system as we do public shows in a variety of locations with very different acoustics.

Though most members have their own NLE systems the club also has two dedicated computers for video editing using Adobe Premiere 6 and 6.5 so that those members who have not been able to go in for NLE on their own can gain experience.

Film-video transfer continues to be a major occupation and source of donations, aided by a member's Sony Pro DVCAM's "Clear Scan" function which allows copying of film at its original frame-rate without "strobing" being a problem and a variety of 8mm and 16mm ciné projectors.

2011 was an interesting year

Spotted by a BBC North-West region reporter and cameraman at an event in Nelson, one of the Borough of Pendle's major towns, we found ourselves having a spot on their lunchtime and evening news programmes. We have made ourselves THE group the Council can call on to video events and can rely on full cooperation from Councillors and staff.

There was plenty of colour and sound when the Band of the Royal Lancashire Fusiliers came to Town.

Meeting only monthly does not allow much inter-club activity but we usually have two or three exchanges a year, particularly with Yorkshire clubs, and a few members enjoy regional and national competitions.

We welcome new members regardless of age or experience.
