SERIAC 2011 ReportThe weatherman said it was going to be cold and miserable on the 5th March 2011. Well, it was, and the public turned up to the Oast Theatre, Tonbridge, because it was warm, cosy and we had some wonderful films to show.Being House Manger it was great to see that we nearly filled the theatre and only a few odd seats were left. We had a number of guests including the final judges. The proceedings were opened by our retiring Chairman Mike Shaw, who then handed over to Reg Lancaster FACI (IAC President) to compere the show. We had 46 entries this year with a running time greater than was available to us on the day. However, all the films given awards were shown and the rest of the available time was used to show non- winners to provide a balanced programme. The final film before the tea break was the Playmakers Film Look at Life, Meals on Wheels. It got everyone laughing and made Joy Prosser's magnificent buffet spread even more tempting! The AGM was handled very swiftly so we could get on and enjoy the last session of films. Then it was award time, and the audience vote went to Unfounded Rumours. The epilogue of this film was very interesting when you consider what happened in Parliament compared to the present day. The final judges were allowed home unscathed, so their deliberations must have pleased most people. It is a difficult job to judge which are winners when you have so many fine films. A final thanks to all those who helped on the day, and contributions donated to the raffle. Our projectionists did a wonderful job with Mike Turner at the helm and Simon Earwicker running up and down the steps to change the projector format.
