The complete top 12 winners of the competition organised by What Video and Camcorder User and sponsored by Mitsubishi, as premiered at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) on June 27, 1992.

1. SOUTH LONDON GETAWAY
Michael Dunne and Alex Lisowski
An uproarious comedy about the misadventures of an inept burglar (Jonathan Geller) offering knowing references to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Camerawork by Pete Rowe and Max Brown; written and directed by Simon Edwards.

Tyrone Braithwaite
A symbolic drama dealing with the issues of free will and decision, set as a boy-meets-girl story. Surreal effects are obtained by clever use of camera and lighting techniques.

Justin Baldwin

Leandro Blanco (Spain)
The maker is 'sitting on top of the world just watching all things go by'. This is a glorious montage of things that have passed by his camera. The harmonious sound-track consists solely of his own voice, multi-dubbed over and over, and described delightfully on the end title as 'Lead voice and vocals'.

An ambitious and visually impressive costume drama set in the 1700s and the present day. The story concerns hero Edward's long battle against a vampire, Marlowe, who destroyed his beloved Mary and now threatens his sister.

Tim Jones
The tale of a plant mutated by pollution, going on the rampage against cars, tanks and finally the whole world. The images were scratched directly onto film and then transferred to video using colour enhancement. Set to a clangorous free-jazz sound-track by Belinda Jones.

10. TUFF DON'T FIGHT
Michael Clark (The Society of Harmonious Fists)
A violent, brutal and bloody battle between a manic, half-naked youth and an older, heavier opponent in a scrapyard. This is an experimental drama using unconventional editing techniques (savagely cut as if at random, including sections with timecode in vision). The sound-track is equally unconventional: some sections are silent, some have snatches of snarled dialogue or animal noises and others have metallic industrial music.

11. THE WELSH WILDCAT : FACT OR FANTASY?

Although in essence a documentary, this is in fact a sophisticated spoof with an unconventional sense of humour. Be prepared to jump out of your seat when the reporter/presenter (director Matthew Davies himself) discovers the truth about a mysterious beast haunting the Welsh Hills! Original idea by Andrew Goode.
