The complete list of the winners of the competition premiered at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in November 1997.

1. THE SAME TIME NEXT WEEK

2. DEAD ON TIME
Great Houghton Prep School
Some very impressive computer effects and graphics enhance the storytelling, as does the sound-track. The yarn is played out in the present and the future by the 'Good Guy' (Edward Groome) and his evil cyborg opponent (Nicholas Cook). Wide-screen format. Directed by Patrick Davies.
BAVA Trophy, Best Sound 1997

Story
8.mins

3. THE SNEEZE
Scott Mann (Co. Durham)
After seeing this movie, which has an imaginative mix of live action shooting and clever animation, you will never - absolutely NEVER - consider risking a sneeze again!

4. CELTIC ENEMY
Dylan Howitt (South Wales)
A record of the protests by local inhabitants against the devastation caused by a new open-cast mining operation in South Wales by the company, Celtic Energy (hence the title).
BAVA Trophy, 1st prize, Best Documentary Award 1997

Documentary
15.mins

5. ANOTHER STORY
Leandro Blanco (Spain)
Full of wonderful images - as one might expect from the maker of visual feasts such as Caribbean Safari (see lib. no: V 66 item 9) and There's a Place (see lib. nos: FT/V 112 item 1 and V 120/121 item 3) - adding a touch of class to what might otherwise have been a routine story about a small-time hustler who has a deep-sea encounter.
BAVA Trophy 1997; IAC International Award 1998

Story
15.mins

6. 1000 COMMITMENTS TO GOD
Pyramid Productions (Hampshire)
A compelling, if somewhat harrowing, account of the obsessive behaviour of Matthew (Bram Williams), and revealing, via his confidant (Kevin Gower), his mixed-up feelings and fantasies about God, religion, crucifixion and guilt, wherein his Mother (Lorraine Hilton) also appears as a Harlot. This is a dramatised case study from Dr. Judith Rappaport's book The Boy Who Couldn't Stop Washing, examining the condition known as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Directed by Dave Cook.
NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN
BAVA Trophy 1997; Guernsey Lily, Best Photography Award 1997; UNICA Bronze Medal 2000

7. FLIGHT OF FANCY
Alan Atkinson (Rugby)
What might happen if certain non-professionals started trying genetic engineering for themselves! The mind boggles! Made in the style of a television documentary, with a presenter (Alan Atkinson) talking to camera and a local farmer, Walter Ruddles, played by the not-entirely inappropriately-named Gordon Bullock.
BAVA Trophy, Best Comedy 1997; IAC Gold Seal 1998

Humour
8.mins

8. MY LAST DUCHESS
John Tordoff
An ambitious enactment of the narrative poem by Robert Browning about a 17th-Century Prince (Ken Bones) and what happened to his wife (Sophy Aykroyd). The period detail, costumes, locations and music are all impressive.
BAVA Trophy, Best Photography Award, Best Actor (Ken Bones) 1997

Story
15.mins

9. APOCALYPSE
Michael Goodden (Dorset)
The maker of Mother Earth (lib. nos: V 141 item 2, FT/V 151 item 2 and V 152/153 item 2) takes a different look at Man and planet Earth. Set to Holst's 'Jupiter' from The Planets, this contrasts the beauties of Nature with Man's destructive tendencies. Widescreen format.
BAVA Trophy 1997; IAC International Award (Youth) 1997

Documentary
7.mins

10. THE DEMON BOWLER
Great Houghton Prep School
This confrontation on a cricket-pitch between a bowler and a batsman was inspired by a Nike TV commercial. More impressive computer special effects from the makers of Dead on Time (see item 2 above). Widescreen format. Directed by Patrick Davies.
