BIAFF 2005 Awards Selection 2       (Library ref no. 27)

A selection of top entries in the 2005 competition which were shown at the festival in Chesterfield on 21st - 24th April.

1. DA CAPO (REPEAT FROM THE BEGINNING)
Etienne Maes (Belgium)
A newly widowed doctor, who works at the local hospital, discovers a lump in her breast. Before this happened, she enjoyed playing the piano, but afterwards thanks to the chemotherapy, she can't do it; she also loses her appetite. All in all, she has a long and difficult road to travel. English subtitles
SOME MAY FIND THIS A SOMEWHAT DISTRESSING MOVIE.

A megalomaniac duck (!) decides he (she?) will take over the world, but reckons without Superduck!

3. THE MIDDLE WAY
Emmanuel Dubois (France)
Two young men go mountaineering in France, one of them is moody. During the film, we learn his history via a series of intercut flashbacks. All the climbing scenes are done by the actors (no stunt doubles!). The director also wrote the script and was cameraman. English subtitles.
