FILM ARCHIVE: NOT SO MUCH A HOBBY... (Library ref no. FAC04)
The IAC film library - on the 8mm, Super 8, 9.5mm and 16mm guages - has been stored in
the East Anglian Film Archive for several years. The collection comprises more than
1300 items with the earliest films dating from the 1920s.
Seventy-two of these films are available to view on-line as part of the
EAFA website.
For a fuller appreciation, however, we know that presentation on a big screen is the
best option, especially for club shows. This is one of several selections of the films.
1. | THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL (1958) M. H. Bradshell
All groups go through it: the quandary of what theme to choose for the next film production. Spot a future television actress in an early role! |
2. | A VERY BORING FILM (1971) Film Unit 32 of Enfield A one-shot movie. It's both a technical achievement and a joke at the expense of the audience. If it strains your patience (it will) it has achieved its aim. |
3. | THE BATTLE OF WANGAPORE (1955) Grasshopper Group The classic amateur film of life on the North-West Frontier. Made with near- professional polish and a benchmark cartoon of the 1950s. |
4. | LET BATTLE COMMENCE (1958) Grasshopper Group The story of the making of the above film. Drawing, composing music, and shooting in their London studio to meet the competition deadline. |
