MOVIEMAN by Ron Miller, FACI (Aberdeen)
Note: This is an IAC Film & Video Library re-release, transferred from a renovated 16mm print. The supporting programme featured on the original VHS/Betamax tapes is no longer included.
James S. Nairn entered the cinema business during the First World War and became a manager in 1924. By piecing together a narrative from scrapbooks, newspaper cuttings and clips from 35mm Caledonian Association Cinema Newsreels (shot by Jimmy himself), Ron Miller unfolds the life-story of Nairn the showman and sets it against the historical development of the cinema, providing an entertaining collection of explanations of just what makes movies work and how they have progressed and changed over the years.
The print renovation was financed by a donation from the late Ron Miller, FACI
