RECENT EVENTS

Mersey Ten Competition 2010

Our 40th Anniversary competition ! our first being held in 1971 and won by the Liver Club with their film "Trial by Brewery"

This year it was hosted by Preston Movie Makers on 27th March and for the 3rd time held at St. Cuthberts Church Centre Fulwood. The event was well attended with members coming from as far afield as Morecambe Bay and Crewe.

The Competiion was judged by Marion Hewitt, Director of the North West Film Archive and Nick Gladden the Archives Acquisition Officer. 29 films were entered but with more than 4 hours screen time there was only time to show 20 films on the night. Written comments were sent to entrants later to give time to show more entries.

The winning entry was "Who do you think you are Einstein?" by Nigel Barton of Southport - the fourth time that Nigel's name appears on the Stevenson trophy.

Very Highly Commended was "At the Beach" by Carl Brandwood.

Highly Commended was Chris Abrams "Six Miles into the Bay" which also won the Vic William's Trophy for the Audience Choice.

A Commended certificate went to Frank Parker for "Solving a Derbyshire Mystery"

Jim Whalley Preston Movie Makers Chairman and Richard Curry FACI NW Chairman opened and closed the evening respectively.
