YOUTH PROJECTS
The North West is starting to see a resurgence of young film makers it would
seem.
| Gemma Sentence, a young film maker who lives in Oswaldtwistle near Accrington
,has been travelling up and down the country collecting both information,
and video pictures for her first film Chocolate. The film covers
the history of Chocolate production and includes both a Cadbury factory,
and a smaller factory in Blackburn which makes high class hand made chocolates. |
 |
 |
Gemma is making two versions of the movie. A 30 minute and 10 minute
version will be produced, and Lee Mannering has been loaning equipment, and
time to help Gemma complete her first film.
Two other youth workers were included in the IACs work, making a total of
two professional youth workers, and one volunteer. It is expected the 10
min version will be completed later this year, with the 30 min already complete. |
TEAM US PRODUCTIONS
 |
| A new youth film making group has been formed in Burnley following
encouragement from the local IAC youth officer. Operation Rocket Fire
has now been completed, and the cast and crew are very pleased with
the end result. So pleased in fact that they are now scripting a sequel! |

Lee Mannering says" It was all rather sudden. I got a phone call from
the young director who said they were having a few probs, and could I lend
a bit of a hand. I had been knocking plaster off in my kitchen at the time
of the phone call, but dropped my lump hammer and chisel to travel to the
location they had chosen. I looked over the script, but could ad little but
encouragement as they were doing such a great job. It was not until I arrived
home I realised I had gone out in my overalls, and my face and hands were
black with brick dust. I must have looked a right crank to the lads." |
| Within a few days Lee had received another phone call requesting help
with editing the camera tapes. He volunteered his PC and time and sat in
on the young Non Linear Editor to supervise. |
 |
| Lee says "I don't believe in doing the editing for these
young film makers. I just show them what icon to click on and try to point
them in the right direction. They have a fertile imagination, far more than
any adult I suspect, and with none of the inhibitions we adults seem to carry
in life."
The 8 minute movie was edited in one session and the group expect to be filming
in a secret location soon for the sequel to ORF. I wonder how many more young
film making groups will surface in the coming months. Lee seems to feel quite
a few......... |
