Three Bronze Medals and we got Gold for a film not even in the programme!

Each nation is allowed to present a brief introduction to its programme, usually showing off some of the country's landscape and features.  In recent years UK has made its mark with humorous intros.  This time it showed an onion seller cycling to UNICA with the French videos, a BMW speeding there with the German programme, a pizza boy delivering the Italian cassettes and so on ... culminating in the arrival of the Queen in the Coronation Coach apparently delivering the UK movies!

UNICA International Festival at the end of August 2002 saved its biggest surprise for last. At the end of the presentations UNICA President Max Hensli announced a special award made by the UNICA committee at the urging of a French delegate.  After a tantalising introduction he presented a Gold Medal to IAC President Val Ellis for the UK Programme's introductory video.

 It was greeted with the loudest applause and laughter of the festival.  The jury discussion began with a special thanks for it and the British delegates were congratulated on our humour all week.

The movie was made by Humphrey Park - an idea by Val Ellis was performed by Val, Alan Cartwright and William Davis while the tricky work of video manipulation done by Garth Hope.

Our programme was also awarded "proper" medals by the jury with Bronzes for:

Of course a UNICA Bronze Medal marks a much greater achievement than an IAC Bronze Seal.  Of the 130 films in competition only 2 golds, 10 silvers and 15 bronzes were awarded - excluding the film school catgory.
