ESTONIA 1997

The UK was invited to participate in the 1997 Open Festival of Baltic Filmamateurs in Tallinn, Estonia. This is the 28th year of this Baltic contest and other programmes were entered by Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Finland, Norway and, of course, Estonia. This is a compilation of the British movies screened.

A beautiful and thought-provoking documentary about what Man is doing to our planet.

2. ONE MORE SHOT
Seven Teign Movie Makers (Devon)
This Russian roulette 'duel' between two men is brilliantly lit, shot and edited to build up to an extremely tense climax - to which is added a lovely 'sting in the tail'! Written and directed by Ken Baylis.

Regardless of the weather, each year in the two weeks before Lent, Venice celebrates its scandalous 18th-Century debauchery with Carnivale! A slick music footage montage of fascinating faces, filmed in 1991.

4. THE THING FROM BENEATH THE BED!!
Chris Jones (Lancs) Around midnight, the mysterious thing that lurks beneath the bed jumps out and goes darting round the house in a state of high excitement. We see everything from the creature's viewpoint, hearing it but never seeing it. (It's the director's own voice supplying the gurgles, by the way.) This made history as the first-ever video to win the top amateur prize in the IAC's annual International Competition.
