SHOWREEL - TERRY MENDOZA

As part of the IAC's 1999 'Year of the Film & Video Library', a number of 'Showreel' tapes were invited from certain individuals and groups. The first of these was by Terry Mendoza of Westcliff, Essex. There is an optional interval between items 5 and 6.

1. SELF SERVICE

with Paul Mercer)
A young man (Dave Aldous) steals a car, but it soon runs out of petrol so he has to call in to an old-style garage. Having had his tank filled up, he then refuses to pay the elderly man (Geoff Birch) the full rate and drives off again. But after dark, he returns ... Good performances, together with excellent lighting and tight editing, make this a most atmospheric thriller.

2. UNDER COVER
Roger Cork, a television investigative journalist, brilliantly played by Dave Aldous, takes his film crew into the back streets of Southend to uncover the truth about Mr Smith, an unqualified surgeon operating as a transcapitation consultant, bringing misery and ruin to the lives of his patients. Also featuring members of Westcliff's Operatic & Dramatic Society.

A riveting documentary about Tracy Birch and how she designs and makes multi-striped, carved candles. A well-shot and edited movie, the candle-maker's own voice-over making an excellent and informative complement to the visuals.

A wealthy tycoon, George (Roy Foster), believes that his attractive young wife, Tricia (Tricia Kent), is having an affair with her golf instructor, Gary (Russell Byrne). George invites his business partner, David (David Aldous), to investigate. This leads to a web of betrayal, jealousy and greed.
