ANIM ANTICS
Film Group 88 (Bournville)
While hardly a new idea showing what happens to the toys when the big people
have gone to bed - this is an extraordinarily clever piece of animation in
which the playthings are electronic ones - and sophisticated they are, too
- brought to life by a wee spirit which materialises in their midst. Presumably
the hardware assembled here is the very same wizardry that helped create
the amazing visual effects on this fine video.

THE BECKONING
St. Cuthbert's High School Video Club (Newcastle-on-Tyne)
This is a dramatised account of what happens to five lifeboat volunteers.
They are seen in their everyday lives and then responding to the coastguard's
'call', showing, as ever, disregard for personal safety to help sailors in
distress. Staff members Frank Hodges and David Peffer were responsible for
this very moving school video, in which more than 80 boys, aged between 11
and 18, took part. With acknowledgements to the Tynemouth Lifeboat crew for
their assistance.

THE SHAPE
Ian Gamble (Surrey)
A science-fiction drama about the ultimate in machines turning the tables
on its human creator, a mad professor. It's a tour-de-force of technical
trickery and well-constructed yarn in the genre of a science-fiction cartoon
strip, with a neat twist in its tail (or even its tale).

LOST PROPERTY
Nick Brazil (Berks)
Two railtravellers (Alan Matthew and Diana Brazil) embark on a search at
the Reading Lost Property Office for a long-lost, famous manuscript. The
British Rail employee at the desk (David Edwards) proves to be surprisingly
helpful. The latter role is brilliantly played and won the accolade of Best
Acting Performance (Amateur) in the IAC's 1990 International Film and Video
Competition. Based on an original idea by Tony Walters.

TOGETHER

A professionally styled, visually-pleasing music video by Lars Schwinges
(16) and Michael Hutton Squire (13), made without adult assistance except
in the sound recording. The song is good, too, performed by Genium.
