1. REVE EN COULEUR (DREAM IN COLOUR)
Richard Lewendon (Cirencester)
As a girl (Deborah Bowman) dreams, we see multi-coloured images of her dancing superimposed over her face, enhancing the stark beauty of the dance itself. Photographed by Paul Cascarino and produced by Pandora Pollen.

2. JUST PASSING BY
Leandro Blanco (Spain)
The maker is 'sitting on top of the world just watching all things go by'. This is a glorious montage of things that have passed by his camera. The harmonious sound-track consists solely of his own voice, multi-dubbed over and over, and described delightfully on the end title as 'Lead voice and vocals'.

3. THE LOST BEAT
Teannassie Primary School (Scotland)
This is a delightfully inventive piece of animation by these young film-makers under the direction of Leslie Mackenzie. Thanks to Jack, a young lad fishing, the Sun and the Moon realise that they are in love. All the children play and dance, and everyone is happy; but unthinking Man and his thoughtlessness brings about a change. . . Produced by John McGeoch with funding by Highlands & Islands Enterprise and Clown Jewels.

4. IT'S JUST A DREAM
Leandro Blanco & Yvonne Gil (Spain)
A brilliantly synchronised and edited collage of sea scenes and underwater images. The video is full of complicated visual techniques, using slow-motion, freeze-frames, impressive superimpositions and carefully-timed mixes, all set to the familiar Bolero by Ravel. As the music builds, the magnificent visual imagery becomes more and more intricate.
