NORTH v SOUTH FINALISTS 1994
The North v South Competition Final is a contest between five entries from
the north of Britain and five from the south, chosen from heats in each area.
The judges each year choose the following year's set theme and for 1994 chose
'Stars'. The final took place on January 22, 1995, simultaneously at Altrincham
in the North and Dunton in the South.

A one-time star, Dinah Meyer (Pat Street), now '54' going on 60(!) has come
home. A local, not very successful, newspaper reporter, Phil Sharples (Roy
Carruthers), is desperate to interview her, and to this end gets an electrician
(Viv Hewitson) to 'fix' the star's TV set. The reporter, pretending to be
'The TV Repairman', gets into her hotel room and she gives him an interview,
but things take a turn from what he expects ... Written and directed by Roy
Carruthers.

Anna (Maureen Frost), an amateur astrologer, hears about the theory of 'Time
Twins' (two people born at the same time on the same day of the same year)
and decides to advertise for her 'time twin'. After receiving a reply from
Joanna (Jackie Hayward), in which there are some startling similarities to
herself, they agree to meet, with unexpected results ... Good performances,
including the excellent 'storyteller' in Bert Houlding. Directed by Ken Ferguson.

A man (Alan Grove) goes home after visiting the pub then the takeaway
fish-and-chip shop. At home, while eating his supper, he starts to read the
newspaper it has been wrapped in, and sees some racing results. Checking
the newspaper date, he is puzzled to see it's the next day's. Thinking they've
misprinted it, he throws the paper away. Next day, checking the racing form
on TV, he realises that the winners he read about are running that day, so
rushes to the bookmakers' to get his bet on! ... Produced by Ian Malcolm. |

THE GREEN ROOM

Film Producer/Director Tony Randall (Malcolm Mountjoy) decides to make a
documentary about well-known actress Jessica West (Jeanne Marley), now living
in a theatrical retirement home. Tony takes Tracey (Florence Bishop), who
is going to play the young Jessica, with him when he meets the actress. While
he is doing some tests on the actress, Tracey gets into conversation with
another actress, Lucy Boiston (Molly Jablonska), with whom she gets on well,
as opposed to the original subject, whom she does NOT like! Seeing this,
Tony decides to make the documentary about Lucy instead. A somewhat sad story
is revealed ... A Derek Allen/Reg Lancaster Production.
