SPLENDID PEOPLE
David Whitworth (Huddersfield)
During World War II women had to start boating on rivers and canals since
the men were away, and this shows a group of them in Hawksferry, Derbyshire.
Luckily, a local photographer at the time, Robert Longdon, took many monochrome
stills which have been used in the film and gives a great feeling of the
period. The commentary by Geoff Parkin is exemplary .

(article on making it)
* It is worth mentioning here that this is the second time in consecutive
years that Bernhard Hausberger has won the Daily Mail Trophy. The last time
anyone won it in two consecutive years was T. Lawrenson in 1935
