1. | IN THE BEGINNING Chris Saville (Australia) This plasticine animation (by Elia Szpindle) movie, directed by Chris Saville, is a sheer joy. Take no notice of the 'cod' warning at the start - it's all part of the fun. IAC Gold Seal, Best Humour 2004 |

4. | THE SANCTITY OF LIFE St Cuthbert's Films (Northumberland) The year is 1917 (the year that Finland gained independence from the Russian yoke), and the young composer, Jan Sibelius (Adam Rowntree), is a fanatical patriot because of the years of occupation. He is out one day walking with his cousin Aavo (Jonathan Straughan), when they meet a similar-aged Russian, Yevgeny (Samuel Curtis). This day will change Jan's life forever ... IAC Gold Seal 2004 |

5. | A-WIWIWI Dr Frank Dietrich (Germany) Because the Dwarf Goose is an endangered species (there were, at the time of filming, only 200 left), a group of scientists decide to make the effort to save them. They then 'bond' with the new goslings soon after birth and rear them, eventually teaching them to fly. This is all absolutely riveting. (The title is as near as one can get to the sound the adult geese make.) IAC International Medallion 2004, Best Documentary Award 2004 |
