IAC INTERNATIONAL AWARDS 1990 - part 3

Three Open class International Award-winning entries from the 1990 IAC International Film and Video Competition.

1. THE TREE OF BATTLES University of Southern California (USA)
A costume drama set in France in 1384 when France is still in the midst of the Hundred Years' War against England. An English soldier (Frank Collison) finds himself cut off and alone on French soil. When he is discovered by two young French children he accidentally kills the girl (Sabrina Chateau). Unable to bring himself to silence the boy (Noah Toly) in cold blood, he kidnaps the youngster as a hostage. As the pair travel towards the coast - and safety for the Briton - a sort of bond grows up between captor and captive, the boy even saving the man's life. Superb costumes by Kristen Swedlund, outstanding camerawork by Gregory Ruzzin and sensitive direction by Nicole Bettauer from a story by Paul McCudden.
