Our older cine film collection is safely stored in the East Anglian Film Archive. Many have been transferred to video and can be found in their online collection.

From the video era we have collections generally running around 80 minutes. Earlier ones are available on VHS, S-VHS and MiniDV. Recent ones on DVD. We have the pick of competitions and selected material created for the love of making movies rather than for profit.

To look for:

  • particular movies use the Title index
  • for a film-maker's work use the Makers index
  • for a compilation use the Tape/Disc index.

Booking films - Then download the conditions of hire and order form and apply to the librarian. This service is run by volunteers so please book well ahead and be patient if there is a short delay in responding.

  • The usual hire fee for compilations is £7.50 (7.50 GBP).
  • Some library programmes are free of hire charge.
  • Some early collections have a lower hire fee, indicated in their description.
  • In every case there is an additional charge for post and packing.
For UK bookings this is £3.00 per tape / disc. (Programmes on two Mini-DVs are charged at £3.00) Overseas bookings are  accepted at the sole discretion of the librarian and the cost will reflect the actual postal charges.
  • All films, tapes and discs in the IAC Library are covered by the law of copyright.
No film, tape, disc or soundtrack may be copied in any circumstances.

Explaining the catalogue

Each catalogue entry includes the title, maker's name and home town / county / country.
Then follows a description of the movie, an indication of type (documentary / story etc) and running time. If the movie was donated that is acknowledged and if any special warnings apply they are at the foot of the entry.
Any major awards are listed:

  • IAC = IAC - The Film and Video Institute's annual International Film and Video Competition
  • TB = The annual Ten Best competition associated with British magazines Amateur Cine World and Moviemaker, which ran for nearly 50 years
  • BAVA = The British Amateur Video Awards Annual Competition
  • Library numbers beginning FT are transfers from film.
  • Those beginning V are video-originated.
  • FT/V means a collection with some of each.

Note: when the library had many tapes with a single movie on each, we kept a list of categories or types of film, but this seems irrelevant when the vast majority of the material is now offered as collections.  If you have a particular need for the category list, email webmaster@theiac.org.uk and we will consider restoring it.
