& 8. JUGEND VIDEO FORUM
- Duisburg (Germany)

  1. The Duisburg International Non-professional Film Festival (IDAF) and the International Youth Video Forum (JVF) will take place from November 28th to December 2nd 2001.
  2. Any non professional movie-maker is entitled to take part. To enter a video to the JVF, the video and its author have to fulfil the requirements of the following regulations: The video is a genuine video, e.g. it has been edited for producing as a video and the only existing copy is a video format. The age limit set for authors to take part in the competition is 27. The video must not have been commissioned by a commercial producer or a TV-station.
  3. Films can be of all video systems, for the IDAF also S8mm, 16 mm or 35 mm running size. A maximum of two films can be entered by any one person. The running time of any film should not exceed 30 minutes.
  4. All the films and videos entered will be judged. A short-list of the films to be shown will be drawn up by a special commission. The films selected for presentation will be judged in public by an independent international jury. The decision of the jury is final.
  5. The jury awards gold, silver and bronze medals in order of merit. Further more numerous special awards will be made. For the JVF awards we expect to give prizes totalling DM 2.500.
  6. Entry is free of charge.
  7. Entry deadline. Closing date for receipt of entry forms and films: May 31st 2001.

  9. All the films are handled with the greatest care. However the organisers accept no liability for loss or damage. On submitting the entry form the participant is committed to accept the conditions of the competition.
  10. The films will be returned within four weeks after the end of the competition.

  • Each author can present only one film not longer than 20 minutes
  • Short films presented for the competition shall be devided into two classification groups:
  • A. Films shot by film amateurs.
  • B. Film shot by the students (independent cinemaworkers) of the cinema schools.
  • Short films presented by the young authors shall be devided into three groups: 6 - 12, 13 - 17, 18 - 25 years.
  • Russian and English translations of the soundtrack will be appreciated.
  • Every film will be rewarded with the Participant´s Diploma.
  • Best films of the festival will be rewarded with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals and prizes.
  • Special prizes are for the winners of the Young Authors Contest.
  • A cultural programme will be organised for the participants.

This Award is for the best film/video on any aspect of the British way of life. Also PSA, Photographic Society of America Gold Medal. Open to all categories. also Sponsors Awards and Certificates of Merit.
The organisers may increase the cash prizes at their discretion. Judging will be carried out by specially appointed panels of adjudicators. Film/videos in each Category will be judged within that Category separately, that is, not across Categories.

MONTECATINI 2001 FILMVIDEO
52nd INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL

  1. Within the aim of promoting and encouraging the knowledge and diffusion of short films and videos the 52nd edition of the International Festival will be held in Montecatini Terme (Italy - approx. 40 km from Florence) from July 7th to July 17th 2001.
  2. Filmvideo 2001 is composed of four sections: a) Competition (films or videos realised after 1st January 1999, b) Proposte, c) Special Events, d) Italian Short Films review
  3. Works already presented in other Italian official events will not be admitted.
  4. Running time of the works presented must not exceed 40 minutes. The following formats are acceptable: films 35 mm and 16 mm optical and magnetic (separated magnetic tracks are not accepted); videos (Beta, SP, Umatic High Brand and High Brand SP, Umatic, SVHS, VHS).
  5. The selection of works will be made by the Cultural Directors of Filmvideo 2001 and by an additional member nominated by the President of the Organisation Committee.
  6. An international Jury composed of 5 experts (of whom 2 will be Italian) after seeing all the works in the Competition section during the public screening will award the following official prizes (there will be no ex aequo prizes):

The Entry form (completed in all its sections), a VHS cassette - if possible PAL - (which must contain only one work), a dialogue list (if applicable) in either Italian, English or French, (fundamental for simultaneous translation, for both jury and audience), the director´s bio/filmography, a synopsis and photos of the entrant work will have to be submitted for preselection by 5th March 2001 to the following address:

INTERNATIONAAL SPEELFILMFESTIVAL VOOR NIET-PROFESSIONELLEN EN FILMSCHOLEN "DE DRAKE" GENT, BELGIE

The entry of non professional movies is only open to films and videos made for love, with no financial reward and without professional assistance other than the processing, copying or the physical process of sound transfer. Entry is also open to movies produced by Film schools. These fiction movies belong to a separate category. The author is responsible for the content of his film. The movies are supposed to have a decent quality and content.

Allowed: (formats) super/single 8 mm and 16 mm (systems) PAL, SECAM, NTSC VHS/S-VHS, VIDEO, Hi8, BETACAM, DV. The organisation has at the moment at its disposal:a PAL/SECAM/NTSC S-VHS, DV PANASONIC (machines and projector) a Super 8 mm and a 16 mm film projector. Connecting an own video machine is permitted.

Other entry items:

A letter will inform the author whether his/her movie has been selected for the Festival weekend. The original version of the selected movie will be required in time, but not if the author finds his prejudged video satisfactory. Per return post he/she will address the original movie (for the formats super/single 8 mm and 16 mm) to the festival secretary or preferably bring it with him / her on the projection day.

All entered original movies screened at the Festival remain under the organisation's protection till the end of the gala. After that the author or his / her representative can get his / her representative can get his / her original film back at the technical service.

Extracts of the winning movies will be screened at the gala.

The selected movies for the Festival weekend will be judged on different aspects
Per aspect the jury appoints a winner among 3 nominees.

In the category non-professionals AND in the category Film schools the jury appoints a winner among 3 nominees.The jury also selects a number of movies which will get one of the special prizes then at the disposal of the Festival e.g. UNICA-medal, Prize FACINEB, prizes from national and local sponsors, Prize of the Festivals President. The authors of all entered movies will receive a certificate per film.

The screening starts on Thursday November 8th 2001 and lasts till Sunday November 11th 2001.

The entry form & videocassette necessary for the prejudging must have reached the secretary the latest on September 1st 2001
